This past weekend I went to the air show in Pensacola. It was the Blue Angels' last performance for the season. I'd never been to an air show before, so we weren't prepared. We did think to bring 2 chairs and some sun block and hats. But we should have gone hours before. It took an hour for us to get inside the gate because traffic was so bad. Then we missed half the air show because we were stuck in traffic and hiking and hiking to get to the action. The F-16s and the F-18s were the best. The noise made my jaw hang open. My favorite part was when the planes (Blue Angels or whoever) flew by VERY SLOWLY. Have you ever watched a jet fly by in slow motion? It was awesome.
Here's a video:
I should really try to update in between hurricanes. Humberto hit my old home town last night. Caught everyone by surprise. They're without power, and we got tons of rain today. Where did that sucker come from??
It has been so hot!! How can it be 100° every single day??? My A/C has been running nonstop trying to cool down the house. And what a time to start school. If the kids go outside for PE or recess, they'll die of heat stroke.
Tomorrow is Walker's first day of school. I hope he can get up at 7:00 because he hasn't gotten up that early the entire summer.
I have been reading John Standford's "Prey" series books. Someone loaned me the ones they had, and I found 2 more at the used bookstore. It's nothing I'd try to keep on the bookshelf, but they make a good read.
I've been revamping my MySpace. I don't know why. MySpace is just like a one-page web site. If people display everything they want to on the first page, it takes days to load. Some people have so many videos or songs playing, they overlap and you can't hear any of them clearly. I'd rather have my own web site, but that's in the future. I'm still trying to come up with a domain name.
HOL classes start in two weeks. I'd better get my things together!

Snape: knew it! love him!
Percy: what? what a lame way to resolve the issue with Percy. He shows up; he apologizes; all is well. I didn't like it. It felt like she just stuck that part in there so that the issue of Percy would be finished.
Dobby: I cried. The only part of the book where I teared up. Harry digging the grave. I felt every shovelful.
Epilogue: Ok, I feel that JKR just added this because of the weird shippers out there who paired up every imaginable combination of people (and non-people) in the JKR universe. She wanted us to know who SHE had paired up, and hopefully people would stop trying to mate Minverva with a Centaur and Sirius with Lupin. A lot of people have stated that they thought the epilogue shouldn't have been there, that it felt out of place and unnecessary. But I honestly believe that's why she put it in there. How would like it if you created a universe and everyone dallied in it and changed things around? This is how she wanted it to be.
Kreacher: loved his turnaround! If I were Harry, I'd clean up that Black place and live there.
Questions: Did Harry become an Auror? Why did we learn that Neville becomes a teacher, but we don't know what everyone else is doing? What was the veil in the Dept. of Mysteries? I expected a full explanation. What happens if someone finds that stone in the Forest? Why didn't Harry try to talk to Dumbledore in the portrait before the end? That's the first thing I would have done after he died.
Yesterday, I went to Oak Alley Plantation by myself. Walker is with the grandparents, and I'm sure he wouldn't have enjoyed it anyway. It was wonderfully beautiful, the 28 oaks out front having been planting by some unknown man in the 1700's! These trees are 300 years old, and have a life expectancy of 600 years! They were magnificent. Here are some pics:
Saturday night we had the most unusual lightning storm I've ever seen. Flashes of light lit up the entire sky continuously for over half an hour. In between the flashes, there were actual streaks of lightning. It was like we were in the middle of a laser show. I tried to capture it with my digital camera (as a movie), and this particular one came out pretty good (or is it well?)....
Got a new A/C unit 3 days ago. No more trips into the attic to wet-vac water from the drip pan. No more checking the breaker to see if it tripped. No more walking outside to see why the compressor's not on. No more money. Bill: $6000+
